*1985 in graz. lives in vienna. dramatist, prose writer, degree in theatre studies.
winner of several prizes such as "nachwuchsautor 2014" (theater heute critics survey), sponsorship award as part of the kassel literature prize for grotesque humour (2017) and the ingeborg bachmann prize (2017).
plays (selection): am apparat (premiere 2015, schauspielhaus graz), dosenfleisch (premiere 2015, deutsches theater berlin and burgtheater wien), der herzerlfresser (premiere 2015, schauspiel leipzig), der thermale widerstand (premiere 2016, schauspielhaus zürich), and currently: jedermann (stirbt) (premiere 2018, burgtheater wien).
ferdinand schmalz will hold a class - "this language is made of flesh and stone" - at the end of may at the vienna poetry school. more infos will follow.
