vienna poetry school autumn academy "reality will eat itself"

this year's autumn academy takes place between 7 and 21 november 2022 – in addition to the regular programme of the vienna poetry school.

if one abstracts the term "loss of reality" from its psychopathological origins as part of a mental illness and uses it – colloquially – as an accusation of lack of insight, one quickly ends up in the political sphere. ideological opponents like to accuse the respective other side of "loss of reality", meaning a complete misjudgement of "true facts". outsiders, of course, tend to recognise this as a loss of communication, which is all the more exhausting the further the "realities" of the opposing bubbles have drifted apart. the toxic assholes and their armies of trolls cavort on these competing levels of reality. it would be nice to defeat them, but to do so one would first have to liquidate capitalism. clearly too big a construction site.

what remains are those forms of loss of reality that don't come at us as the tramp stamp of social media. what remains is loss of reality, for example, as the pataphysical transcendence of outdated laws of nature. or as a sensual, even ecstatic discipline. and as (violent) counter-propaganda to the fundamentalist proclaimers of salvation of all kinds. we have experts for all that. namely:
