exploration and instant city poetry with writer barbi marković (vienna/belgrade)

wien museum urbanouts in association with vienna poetry school
we are taking a look at all sorts of texts in the city and try to observe them as closely as possible. what is forbidden? what do people eat and drink? which desires are answered by advertisements? what can we tell about our city and our times, by lookig at the texts that surround us? and finally: how can we use these city texts artistically or literarily?
the ciy transciptions take place on two consecutive days. on the first day, together, we will take a closer look at a square in vienna. we will collect texts and make notes.
on the second day, we will analyse our material, compare it to other cities and, by use of montage technique, transform it into instant city poetry.

barbi marković
*1980 in belgrade.
she studied german in belgrade and vienna, worked as an editor for the publishing house rende in belgrade. in 2009, her novel "ausgehen" was published by suhrkamp ("izlazenje", rende 2006). in 2011/12, she was "stadtschreiberin" (writer in residence) in graz.
her latest book, "graz, alexanderplatz", was published by leykam in 2012.
in 2014/2015, she received a project grant from the art section of the austrian federal chancellery, and in 2015, participation at "wiener wortstätten" and performance of the dance piece "don't talk to me in my sleep" in groningen, nl.
barbi marković lives in vienna.
urbanouts is a series of events for young people who are interested in the city and the wien museum. on the agenda are strolling and exploring, with a focus on the city and its collection. workshops intensify joint activities with museum educators, experts and artists. in doing so, the wien museum is an open space for encounters and a key to the city.
