30 years vienna poetry school.
remembering, stock-taking and speculating about future strategies for creative writing institutions.
after the 'end of the avant-garde' and the umpteenth 'death of the author', what remains for an institute like the vienna poetry school, which positions itself in the tradition of 'experimental' poetry? for example, freedom beyond doctrinaire manifestos and idealistic proclamations. or the possibility of communitarian text/image production beyond narcissistic poets' egos. vienna poetry school founder christian ide hintze was still regarded as a boiler of artistic utopias. in today's post-post-something modernity, the former fire is noticeably more smothered, but not on a visionless low flame. in the end, we are still left with rechargeable individual mythologies. and, in a pinch, herbert achternbusch: if we don't have a chance, then we should at least take it.
panelists: sfd-teachers bodo hell (writer), orhan kipcak (media designer, multimedia writer, co-founder and teacher at the institute for language art/university of applied arts, vienna), teresa präauer (writer) and ferdinand schmatz (poet, head of the institute for language art from 2012 to 2020)
moderator: fritz ostermayer (artistic director of the vienna poetry school)
