ed sanders (woodstock, new york)

geboren 1939 in kansas city, missouri.
lyriker, prosaist, sänger, songwriter, pionier der performance-poetry, bindeglied zwischen beat und hippie generation, klassischer schriftgelehrter (altägyptisch, altgriechisch, mykenische linear-b schrift).
1964 abschluß seiner studien an der new york university ("a degree in classics") und gründung der rockband “the fugs” – jener us-band, die als erste folk-rock und klassische poesie verbunden hat und damit mehrmals in den us-amerikanischen pop-charts vertreten war. gründer der später legendär gewordene buchhandlung "peace eye book store" in new york´s lower east side. publiziert eine reihe von einflußreichen magazinen und manifesten. herausgeber des “woodstock journals”.
lehrtätigkeit am naropa institute in boulder, colorado. professor für sprache und literatur am bard college, “writer-in-residence” am new yorker state writer insitute in albany (2000, 2003). leitete eine von der schule für dichtung 1995 an der frankfurter städelschule organisierten klasse mit dem titel "the creation of biographies in verse", 1996 in wien eine klasse mit dem titel "the metrics and poetics of sappho", 1997 die klasse "the life of allen ginsberg”.
zahlreiche preise und stipendien.

autor von "the family" (bestseller über die morde der manson family1971), "tales of beatnik glory" (1990), "poems for new orleans" (2004) u.v.a.
